01.16.07 Some Love for the DePauw Women's Basketball Team
Coach Kris Huffman has been at the helm of the DePauw University women’s basketball team for thirteen years, and once again they are nationally ranked and having an outstanding year. After their wins at home against Hendrix and Austin, the Tigers moved to 14-2 on the year and 4-1 in SCAC play. This performance has earned them a national ranking of nine in NCAA Divion III. The Tiger’s only losses have been to Illinois Wesleyan and Oglethorpe, both on the road. Coach Huffman and the Tigers have done this by playing well together at both ends of the floor and by being a deep and unselfish group. This team could very well be the epitome of balance, as Liz Bondi, the leading scorer, averages 14.5 points per game, and nine other players average between 6 and 10 points. We should not be surprised because this is the level of success Huffman-coached teams have achieved at DePauw. She is the all- time leader in wins as the women’s coach at DePauw with a record of 244-77, and 135-25 in conference play. Coach Huffman has been selected Conference Coach of the Year five times, and the Division III Coach in 2002. Her teams have been in the Division III National Tournament six times, and seem poised to make another appearance. Not bad work for a team and coach not enough people know about .
