02.01.07 Thoughts on the Super Bowl ( Everyone else is talking, why not me?)

If you have listened to my show for any lenth of time ( to those who have, thanks), you know I seldom if ever talk about the Super Bowl. My thought has always been, what else can I add that has not already been covered a multitude of times? Do I need to remind you of the Peyton Manning’s struggle to achieve this milestone and what the impact will be on his legacy ( a ridiculous notion regarding his legacy, he is and will be considered one of the all-time greats)? How about Rex Grossman and his struggles at QB for the Bears (he had to do something right for the Bears to be in this game)? The first time an African-American Head Coach has coached in the Super Bowl (we know that Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith have a great relationship and happen to be great coaches)? No, I will the hordes of media in Miami bring all of this info to you in various forms. My thoughts are very simple: the Colts have achieved this opportunity by having a plan in place, by allowing the coaches to coach and the players to play, and look at the results. No prima donna players, no problems, focus on team, concepts such as those. Lovie Smith has allowed Rex Grossman to direct his squad when everyone else said they could not win with Rex. When you have coaches of conviction who believe in the system and the players, you can and will do super things. Don’t forget to tune in to Indiana Sports Talk this Friday and Saturday and check out our Game of the Week on Thursday this coming week—Batesville at Rushville.
