02.09.07 Mid Central Conference home to great men's and women's teams

You all know I am a small college basketball guy at heart, having coached at the NAIA and NCAA Division II level for twenty one years, and I am constantly amazed at the terrific teams we have in our state. As I write this, the Mid Central Conference features the Number One Women’s team in Division II play, Indiana Wesleyan University. Indiana Wesleyan’s Men’s basketball team is currently ranked third in NAIA Division II play. Obviously this is quite an accomplishment for the school , the coaches, and the players. However, the Mid Central Conference is blessed with great women’s and men’s teams. This past Wednesday night, Indiana Wesleyan’s women’s team beat Bethel College, who was ranked third in the polls. Tomorrow (Saturday), the Indiana Wesleyan men’s team will play eighth ranked Huntington, a team that played for the NAIA National title a year ago.. In addition to these ranked teams, both teams at St. Francis are ranked in the respective polls, the Womnen are rankled fourth and the men are ranked fourteenth. What makes this even more remarkable is that a great number of Hoosier young women and men play key roles in the success of their respective teams. Keep this in mind if you have a son or daughter who can play at at a high level of college basketball. Don’t forget to tune into Indiana Sports Talk this weekend as we feature the Girls Sectionals and college basketball.
