08.17.07 Eastern and Crawford County make history this Friday
Few of us can grasp the importance of the opening game Friday night between Eastern (Pekin) and Crawford County. Both teams will play their first varsity games, and it is tremendous that trhey do so against one another. The game will be played in Pekin and the atmopsphere will truly be unbelievable. Coach Eric Robertson leads Eastern’s Musketeers after completing a 7-2 season last year at the junior varsity level. A great number of those young men return, led by quarterback Nate Wade. Eastern will play in Sectional 31 in 2A, and are understandably looking forward to a successful season.
Crawford County will compete in Sectional 23 and are led by Coach Brian Ruble, Sr. For the past two years, the Wolfpack have played at the junior varsity level, last year going 5-3, with all five wins at home. Coach Ruble and his guys will play their first home game August 31st against Perry Central. I wish both schools success, along with Forest Park which is also beginning its first season of varsity competition. The experiences you are about to enjoy will be lifetime ones. The energy on Friday nights is hard to duplicate, so enjoy all of this and know that many years from now, the pride you will have for what you have accomplished will be immeasurable.
