08.24.07 Great games in Week Two of the High School Football season

The weather has been and continues to be a major story in Week Number Two of the high school season. This week, you see some more of the rivalry games often featured in the early season. For example, one of my favorite game Friday is the battle for Columbus, with North traveling to East. North is ranked number six in the 5A poll, and East is the number one team in 4A. Tim Bless and Bob Gaddis have made their squads powers in their respective classes, and have made Columbus into a community that greatly supports its football. What makes this even more unique is the open enrollment policy in Columbus which allows students to choose thie schools. The coaches have such high regard for one another, they run a football camp together in the summer. This is the perfect example of coaches, players and a community understanding what it takes to be successful. Another big battle for bragging rights will feature Harding and Dwenger slugging it out in Ft. Wayne. Two of the perennial powers in high school footbal, Dwenger is ranked third in the 4A poll and Harding is ranked number one in 2A. South Bend St. Joe and Mishawaka Marian also have a great rivalry game on Friday. Both teams are very talented, as evidenced by their rankings, SB St. Joe is fourth in 3A, and Marian is seventh in 3A. This could be the most evenly matched game in the state this Friday. As always, thanks for taking time to read the blog. Also, thanks for joining us on the website, and more importantly, thanks for listening to Indiana Sports Talk.
