10.19.07 Sectionals , College, Football Weather and Fall Break

In case you have been living in a cave, this weekend signals the start of the Sectionals in high school football. I could go through all of the so-called big games, but frankly all of these games are big. Win and advance, lose and your season is over and in some cases your career is over. That would qualify as being a big game. Make sure you listen to Indiana Sportsw Talk for all of the interviews with coaches after the games. Also, there are some very important college football games coming up on Saturday. Best game of the day could be Ball State at Western Michigan. This is a game between two evenly matched teams, it is Homecoming which means the Cardinals need to ramp up their play, and a loss by the Cards would make it difficult to contend in their Division in the MAC. Purdue’s match-up with Iowa is similarly important in the sense that the Boilers need to make a stand in this game and re-establish an identity as a bona fide upper echelon team in the Big Ten. The last two losses were dissappointing in that they did not really compete like they needed to. Hoosiers can get their sixth win with an upset of Penn State, but that will be a difficult task. On the small college front, how about the job that Matt Land has done at Tri State? The Thunder are 4-2 and will be at Olivet on Saturday. This is quite a turnaround and there is obvious excitement in Angola. A new stadium and weight room are on the horizon, and continued success is certainly expected. Wabash is ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III polls. The Little Giants will host Oberlin on Saturday. Franklin College continues its march to an HCAC crown at Rose-Hulman. We will talk about these and more college football games on Saturday on Indiana Sports Talk.
